「皆が協力すれば世界は変えられるはずだ」

ネッツのカイリー・アービングが食料支援NPOに32万3000ドル（約3600万円）を寄付したことをインスタグラムで報告し、ファンにも協力と支援を呼びかけた。

アービングはNPO団体『Feeding America』と共同で、新型コロナウイルスの感染が拡大する中、様々な理由により食料が不足している人々へ食品を届ける『Share A Meal』（食事をシェアしよう）キャンペーンを立ち上げた。

「愛のある誕生日メッセージをありがとう。皆からのサポートには本当に感謝しています。新型コロナウイルスが僕らの愛する人々、学校、仕事、そして食品へのアクセスへ多大な影響を与えていることを目の当たりにし衝撃を受けました。今回、孤立しているコミュニティへ今必要な食料を届けるために、『Feeding America』と『Lineage Logistics』とパートナーシップを結び『Share A Meal』キャンペーンを立ち上げました。また、地元の『City Harvest』と協力し、25万食分の食料をニューヨーク地区の住民へ届けます」

Thank you all for the birthday love, I’m extremely grateful for the support. Seeing the effects of COVID-19 reach our loved ones, our schools, our jobs, and access to food has really impacted me. I am excited to partner with @feedingamerica and @lineagelogistics to launch the Share A Meal campaign to help marginalized communities get the food resources they require during this time, and to work with our local partner @cityharvestnyc to distribute 250k meals to my neighbors in need across the NY area. In addition to that I am donating $323k to Feeding America and @lineagelogistics will match $200k of what we raise together. 寄付の金額32万3000ドルはアービングの誕生日（3月23日）にかかっているが、3つの数字を足すと急逝したコービー・ブライアントの背番号と同じ8になり、コービーへの敬意も込められている。

アービングは2月に負傷していた肩の手術を受け今シーズンの復帰は絶望と見られているが、選手はプレー以外でも社会にポジティブなインパクトを与えられることを証明している。
